Following the increase of minimum wage and accelerating the development of the private sector, the average monthly nominal wage reached 720 manat ($423.5) in Azerbaijan from January through June 2020, Trend reports citing a report of the State Statistical Committee.
In total, the average monthly nominal wage rose by 23 percent over the specified period compared to the same period of 2019.
Also, as of July 1, 2020, the number of employees in the country's economy increased by 5 percent over the year and amounted to 1,695,000 people, of which 922,100 were employed in the public sector, and 773,000 - in private sector.
Some 19.5 percent of hired workers out of their total number in the country are involved in education, 18 percent – in trade, 13 percent – in industry, 8 percent – in health and social services, 8.2 percent – in construction, 6.6 percent - in public administration and defense, 4.5 percent - in transport and storage, 3.4 percent - in professional, scientific and technical activities, 3.5 percent - in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 1.7 percent - in financial and insurance activities, 13.6 percent - in others sectors of the economy.
As a result of comprehensive social reforms carried out on the basis of the relevant instructions of the President of Azerbaijan, the minimum wage in the country was increased to 250 manat ($147), which significantly affected the salaries of civil servants, employees of a number of budgetary institutions, enterprises and organizations, and state oil companies.
