The total of 56 family and children support centers are launched in Kyrgyzstan in 2008, Nurlan Soltobaev the deputy director of the children's protection department under the State Physical Culture, Sport, Youth Affairs and Children's Protection said Friday at the news conference on Poverty Reduction through Family Strengthening in Bishkek, reported 24.kg.

Some 44 centers are reportedly opened in the regions, while 12 - in small towns of Kyrgyzstan. "Today, more children get into boarding institutions. In 1990 Kyrgyzstan counted 9 boarding schools, now we have 18, which home about 6,000 children," Soltobaev said.

The situation stems from poverty worsening. "Poverty usually has negative impact on family's environment and leads to breakups. The number of single mothers is rapidly growing. All these negative factors should motivate social services to fight for children's opportunity to live in families," the deputy director said.
