Kyrgyzstan expands QR code payment points

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 26. Kyrgyzstan has set up more than 63,200 points for QR code payments as of September 1, 2024, Trend reports.

According to the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan, this figure increased by 62.4 percent compared to the end of 2023, when there were 38,900 points.

Bishkek сity leads with 24,984 points, making it the highest in the country. Following that are the Osh region with 5,678 points and the Chuy region with 5,359 points.

In contrast, the Naryn region has the fewest points, totaling just 1,245, while the Talas region has slightly more at 1,361 points.

Since the launch of the QR payment project, a total of 27.2 million transactions have been made, amounting to 29 billion soms (approximately $344 million).

As of the second quarter of 2024, 20 banks out of 211 and seven payment system operators were providing services for conducting payments and transfers via QR codes.

The cashless payment system using QR codes has been operating in Kyrgyzstan since May 2022.
