BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 4. A total of 128 trillion rials (about $290 million) has been allocated for launching processing plants in Iran's agricultural sector from March 20 through November 3, 2024, the director of Iran's Agricultural Mechanization Development Center Karim Zolfaghari told local media, Trend reports.

He claims that the agricultural sector has operationalized 407 processing plants during the specified period. These enterprises can process 3.25 million tons of agricultural products per year.

According to Zolfoghari, these processing enterprises employ 7,100 people. These enterprises process, store, and package agricultural and horticultural crops.

Approximately 771 new industrial enterprises received licenses in Iran during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), according to the official.

“With the commissioning of these enterprises, it will be possible to process 5.7 million tons of agricultural products per year,” he said.

To note, Iran produces more than 130 million tons of agricultural products annually.

The agricultural land in Iran stretches over a whopping 12 million hectares, a real cornucopia of fertile ground.
