BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 11. A new 42-megawatt block has been launched at Iran's Rey Thermal Power Plant, located in the northern Tehran Province, the Executive Director of Iran's Thermal Power Plant Holding (TPPH), Abolfazl Asgari, told reporters, Trend reports.

Asgari noted that the new unit was brought online following an investment of 19.5 million euros.

According to him, this new block will help alleviate electricity shortages in Tehran during the summer months.

The official further mentioned that construction has already begun on another new block at the plant. Once the necessary funds are secured, the new unit is expected to be operational by August.

The Rey Thermal Power Plant has a total of 29 gas turbines, with a production capacity of 1.02 gigawatt hours. Currently, 22 of these turbines are in operation, producing up to 796 megawatt hours of electricity.
