Iran's power plants have generated over 224.795 terawatt hours of electricity since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20) to Jan. 10.
The figure shows a 5.67 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year, the official website of the Iran's energy ministry reported Jan. 11.
The Islamic Republic's thermal power plants produced 212.784 terawatt hours of electricity during the period, meanwhile hydroelectric power plants shared 12.01 terawatt hours of the country's total electricity production.
Output of thermal power plants has increased by 6.01 percent during the period, however the output of country's hydroelectric power plants only shows an increase by 0.02 percent year on year.
The ministry has supplied over 227.834 terawatt hours of electricity to various sectors during the period, indicating a rise by 5.62 percent compared to the same period of preceding year.
According to the Iran's Energy Ministry's annual report, the country produced 263 billion kilowatt hours (KWh) of electricity, while it exported above 11.7 billion KWh and imported 3.7 billion KWh during the last fiscal year.
The Islamic Republic currently trades power with Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Tehran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1 billion in investments for the construction of three new power plants.
