Significant fall in drilling operations of Iran continued in the second month of the current fiscal year, which started March 20, 2018.
The National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) has drilled over 38,760 meters of oil and gas wells using its drilling fleet during the first two months of Iranian fiscal year (March 20-May 21), according to Hamid Reza Khoshayand, deputy managing director of NIDC.
The state-run company’s drilling operation has witnessed a fall by 27 percent compared to the same month of the preceding year.
The company drilled over 17,290 meters of wells in the first calendar month, meanwhile the length reached 21,460 meters in the second month, according to NIDC.
The company carried out drilling of 23 offshore oil and gas wells during the 2-month period, Khoshayand said, the press office of the NIDC reported May 23.
The wells included 13 development and delineation wells as well as 10 repairing ones, Khoshayand said.
The National Iranian South Oil Fields Company (NISOC) shared 16 of the drilled wells, followed by Iranian Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (six wells), he added.
The NIDC owns 73 drilling rigs including 70 light, heavy and ultra-heavy onshore and three offshore rigs, he said.
The official added that two heavy onshore drilling rigs will become operational for drilling eight exploration wells in various areas of the country under the command of the exploration directorate of the National Iranian Oil Company.
