BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 5. The volume of guaranteed wheat purchased from Iranian farmers from April 10 through August 2, 2024, increased by 17 percent (1.45 million tons) compared to the same period last year, the official representative of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Sohrab Sohrabi told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, a whopping amount of wheat, weighing over 10.2 million tons and valued at a mind-boggling 1.8 quadrillion rials (approximately $4.54 billion), was snapped up in the country during the said period.
Sohrabi further stated that producers have already received 942 trillion rials (approximately $2.37 billion), and the remaining funds will be disbursed in stages.
He drove home that 1.62 million tons of wheat were purchased from Iran's Khuzestan Province, 1.1 million tons from Golestan Province, 873,000 tons from Fars Province, 766,000 tons from Kermanshah Province, 567,000 tons from Hamedan Province, 508,000 tons from Razavi Khorasan Province, 495,000 tons from West Azerbaijan Province, and 435,000 tons from Lorestan Province.
To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), 1 kilogram of wheat in Iran is purchased with a guarantee by the State Trading Company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
