BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 24. Over 3.2 million tons of cargo were transported along the East-West route, Azerbaijan's primary transit corridor, in 2024.

The data obtained by Trend from the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC shows that the country has witnessed a substantial increase in railway cargo transportation over the past two decades. To sustain this growth, existing rail lines are being updated, and international partnerships are being strengthened.

Moreover, the volume of transit transportation through Azerbaijan’s railways has risen significantly since 2022. Azerbaijan Railways CJSC transported over 18.5 million tons of cargo across transit, import, export, and domestic routes in 2024 alone.

Meanwhile, the volume of transit cargo transported in the same period in 2024 increased by 5.7 percent compared to 2023, reaching 7.3 million tons, while the volume of imported cargo rose by 10 percent, totaling 5.2 million tons.
