BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 17. Azerbaijan saw a notable increase in the volume of cargo transported along the East-West transport corridor from January through April 2025, reaching 3.995 million tons.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistics Committee indicates
that this denotes a year-over-year augmentation of 232,000 metric
tons, equating to a 6.2 percent escalation relative to the
analogous timeframe of 2024 (3.76 million metric tons).
During the specified reporting interval, the aggregate throughput
across all transport modalities within Azerbaijan comprised 3.67
million tons of freight transited via rail infrastructure, 1.76
million tons via maritime channels, and 2.55 million tons via
terrestrial routes.
Transit shipments constituted a significant 46.3 percent of the
aggregate rail cargo while accounting for 45.2 percent of the total
road freight and an impressive 95.2 percent of maritime logistics,
thereby emphasizing Azerbaijan's pivotal position as a central
transit nexus within the regional supply chain.
