BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 26. The volume of cargo transportation along the Azerbaijani section of the East-West transport corridor reached 8.3 million tons from January through June 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistics Committee indicates that this figure is up by 130,800 tons, or 1.6 percent, compared to the same period last year (8.17 million tons).
About 4.99 million tons accounted for transit cargo out of the total volume, which is down by 43,700 tons, or 0.9 percent, year-on-year.
The East-West Transport Corridor, also known as the Middle Corridor or Trans Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), is a multimodal logistics route connecting China and Europe via Central Asia and the Caucasus. It serves as a faster, more efficient alternative to the traditional Suez Canal sea route and the "Northern" route through Russia. The corridor's route includes China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and the Black Sea, and is managed by a consortium of countries.
