BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 9. The newly discovered gas reservoir at Iran’s Pazan oil and gas field has the potential to supply gas to four provinces: Bushehr, Ilam, North Khorasan, and Khuzestan, Seyed Mohyeddin Jafari, head of NIOC's (National Iranian Oil Company) Exploration Directorate, told reporters, Trend reports.
Jafari stated that the newly found reservoir at the Pazan field holds an estimated 10 trillion cubic feet (about 283 billion cubic meters) of gas. If developed, it could yield around 28.5 million cubic meters of gas per day.
The official noted that the initial exploration at the Pazan field began in 2015, with drilling reaching a depth of 4,000 meters. Early results indicated the presence of only one gas reservoir, prompting further two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) studies.
He added that drilling of the second well, reaching about 4,600 meters deep, revealed two new hydrocarbon reservoirs, one gas and one oil. Preliminary assessments suggest that the field contains at least 200 million barrels of crude oil, though this figure remains a conservative estimate pending evaluation after the drilling of a third well. This next phase is expected to provide a clearer understanding of the field’s long-term production potential.
“The development of the Pazan oil and gas field has already been agreed upon with an investor. Under the contract, several wells will be drilled in different parts of the field over 40 months. These wells will later be connected to primary processing facilities and will deliver the extracted hydrocarbons to the national network,” Jafari said.
The Pazan oil and gas field, discovered in 2015, is estimated to contain 30 trillion rials (about 850 billion cubic meters) of gas, 430 million barrels of gas condensate, and 200 million barrels of crude oil.
