As many as 98 percent of the population in eight Azerbaijani districts will get all-day access to drinking water by 2018, Baku office of the World Bank (WB) told Trend.
The second national project for improving the water supply and sewerage services, being implemented by the WB jointly with Azerbaijani government, covers such districts as Siyazan, Shabran, Agsu, Ismayilli, Jalilabad, Masalli, Lerik and Yardimli, said the WB representative.
Currently, only 60 percent of the population in these districts has access to all-day drinking water meeting the country's quality standards.
In total, around 323,000 people in these eight districts will benefit from the improved water supply system by late 2017, according to the bank's estimations.
It is planned to restore 923 kilometers of the sewer lines in these districts as part of the WB project.
To date, the bank has allocated $243.48 million for the implementation of this project. The second national project for improving the water supply system and sewerage services has been implemented since 2008 and has already helped improve this infrastructure in three regional centers.
The project is aimed at improving the quality and reliability of the water supply system and expanding the water supply and sewerage networks in the country's regions.
It is expected that the project's implementation will be completed by Dec.31, 2017.
