Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Elyor Ganiyev at the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum in Georgia called on the interested sides to actively participate in the development of existing (Batumi) and under construction (Anaklia) Georgian seaports, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.
Ganiyev added that, first of all, Tashkent is interested in developing the Poti port which is the closest to Uzbekistan.
“We, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and other countries are interested in the effective functioning of the transport corridor. The Batumi port and Anaklia port have great potential and we must use it to restore the ancient Silk Road,” said Ganiev.
The Georgian port of Anaklia is included in the Trans-Caspian transport corridor.
Silk Road Forum opened in the Georgian capital on Oct. 22. About 2,000 delegates from 60 countries will discuss the development of transport, logistics, communications, energy, tourism and trade within two days.
