BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. It will be possible to produce 1.7 million tons of sponge iron per year with the launch of the Bafq Sponge Iron Plant in Iran's Yazd Province in the center of the country, said Mohammad Ranjbar, an official of Iran's Central Iron Ore Company, Trend reports.
The official noted that the construction of the mentioned plant has been started for 4 months and is planned to be commissioned in 3 years (2026).
Ranjbar added that the plant is being built on an area of 33 hectares with an investment of 230 million euros.
According to him, the roads leading to the plant have already been laid, and the area is provided with energy infrastructure.
During the first 3 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through June 21, 2023), 9.61 million tons of sponge iron were consumed within Iran.
Meanwhile, 31.4 million tons of sponge iron were produced in Iran for the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), which is an increase of 4 percent compared to the same period in the last year.
