The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey has extended the license for the exploration of oil and gas deposits of the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), the ministry told Trend.
TPAO applied to the ministry to extend the license for more than ten years on March 5, 2020, said the ministry.
TPAO will conduct oil and gas exploration in the provinces of Samsun, Chorum, and Amasya on a total area of 233,850 hectares, the ministry said.
In 2019, exploration drilling work was carried out in Turkey to search for hydrocarbons, 5,063 exploration wells were drilled.
During the year, the total depth of exploration drilling operations amounted to over 9.5 million meters.
At the same time, TPAO drilled 3,048 exploration wells with total footage of 6,145,929 meters.
Some 104 wells with a total depth of 133,386 meters were drilled by organizations of the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration of Turkey (MTA), 257 wells with a total depth of 311,662 meters were drilled by other Turkish companies.
Foreign companies drilled 1,312 exploration wells with a total depth of over 2.2 million meters, and joint ventures and consortiums - 342 wells.
From January through December 2019, 510 deposits were drilled by TPAO, 8 – by MTA, 24 – bu other domestic companies, 306 - by foreign companies, and 93 deposits – by joint consortiums.
In April 2014, a law came into force in Turkey allowing oil exploration in forests and national parks.
