The Georgian Energy and Water Supply Commission set a new tariff for the country's largest hydropower plant - Enguri HPP, which will be in force for the next 3 years, Trend reports via Georgian media.
The new tariff will amount to 1.857 tetri (57 cents) per kWh, which is 0.49 tetri (14.98 cents) more than the current tariff. The tariff has increased for the Vardnili HPP cascade and the electricity cost will be 2,565 tetri (784.12) per kWh instead of 2,206 tetri (674.38), accordingly the tariff growth amounts to 0.36 tetri (11.01 cents).
However, the electricity tariff generated by Enguri HPP was 1,818 tetri (555.76 cents) in 2018-2019, but as of the GNERC’s decision, it was reduced by 0.46 tetri (14.06 cents). Therefore, the tariff will be increased from 2021 again.
The electricity tariff of the Vardnili Cascade was 4 tetri (1.22 cents) per kWh in 2018-2019, which was reduced to 2,206 tetri (674.38 cents) by 2020, although in 2021 the tariff will increase again.
GNERC also approved tariffs for other power plants. Tariffs for hydropower plants owned by Energo Pro Georgia Generation will be as follows during the period 2021-2023:
New tariff of "Rionhes" - 1.436 tetri / 44 cents/ kWh, the current tariff is 4.060 tetri / 1.24 cents/ kWh;
New tariff of "Gumathes" - 2.494 tetri/ 76 cents/ kWh, and the current tariff is 2.209 tetri /68 cents/ kWh;
New tariff for "Lajanurhes" - 2,768 tetri / 846.18 cents/ kWh, while the current tariff is 1,679 tetri / 513.27cents/ kWh;
New tariff of "Dzevrulhes" - 4.653 tetri / 1.42 cents / kWh, and the current tariff is 1.986 tetri / 61 cents/ kWh.
However, rehabilitation of the Enguri HPP will begin in January 2021, as a result of which the station will stop generating electricity for 3 months for repair works. The project was also planned for 2018 and 2019, but it was eventually postponed to 2020. According to the Ministry of Finance, 96 million lari ($29.3 million) will be spent on the project.
