The Black Sea Terminal (Kulevi) of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR closed 2020 with a zero rate of Lost Time Injury, Trend reports citing the terminal’s website.
“The HSE Policy of Black Sea Terminal (BST) aims to achieve 0 (zero) Lost Time Injury (LTI) and to do no harm to the environment. BST closed 2020 with a zero rate of LTI. This is a remarkable achievement, particularly considering the safety challenges of the terminal.
Safety is a core priority at BST. By creating a safe environment, and implementing the best safety practices for all daily activities, the company is committed to maintaining a safe workplace for its employees, contractors and visitors. Setting an ongoing target of zero LTI is a clear indication of its aim to keep all employees safe, and achieving it is a huge credit to the sizeable team at BST. On a continuous basis, Black Sea terminal implements and improves Safety Observation Cards, Permit to Work, Risk Assessment, Safety Meetings, Joint Site Inspection and daily Toolbox talk sessions.
All safety procedures are updated date on a timely basis. The safety culture among employees is also improved on regular basis. The company focuses on mastering safety tools in everyday operations and has established regular procedure reviews and continuous performance tracking. These drive a safety culture and continuous alertness for both visitors and employees, which together play a crucial role in ensuring that work at BST is carried out with safety as a priority.
Good planning, correct execution of the procedures, forward thinking and caring about others, while having well-maintained infrastructure and equipment are the basics of a safe workspace. It is important to follow the “Safety Comes First” concept. BST management continues to implement and improve upon the ‘BEST SAFETY CULTURE” system,” reads a message on the terminal’s website.
The terminal is used for shipment of crude oil, fuel oil, diesel fuel, gas oil, methanol, aviation fuel, propylene, liquid pyrolysis resin, naphtha, isopropyl alcohol, diesel fuel with ultra-low sulfur content, industrial oil, and condensate.
The terminal in the Kulevi port was put into operation in May 2008, and the transshipment of oil products was launched in June. The total capacity of the terminal is 10 million tons of liquid bulk oil cargo per year, including three million tons of oil, three million tons of diesel fuel, and four million tons of fuel oil. The total capacity of the tank farm of the terminal is 402,000 cubic meters.
