BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 27. The total number of payment cards in circulation by Azerbaijani banks and Azerpost LLC grew to over 18.5 million units as of August 31, 2024.
Data obtained by Trend from the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) shows that this figure increased by 18.5 percent, or 227,000 units compared to the same period last year.
This August, the volume of non-cash payments made using cards within the country amounted to 6.8 million manat ($4 million), of which 5.7 million manat ($3.35 million) accounted for e-commerce, 4.1 million manat ($2.4 million), and over one million manat (590,000) POS terminals.
Since the beginning of the year, the share of non-cash transactions on payment cards within the country amounted to 63.1 percent of the total volume of card transactions.
