Azerbaijan ratchets up nationwide motor cargo, passenger shipments

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. Transporting cargo by motor vehicles in Azerbaijan from January through July 2024 saw an increase of 8.1 percent compared to the previous year, Trend reports.

According to the State Statistics Committee, this number was as high as 77.6 million tons of cargo, accounting for a whopping 58.1 percent of the entire cargo transportation.

In the reporting period, passenger traffic in the country equaled 994.6 million people, up 9.1 percent from the same period in 2023.

Meanwhile, 95.3 percent of passenger transportation was carried out by buses and the remaining 4.7 percent by cabs.

For the subway from January through July of this year, passenger traffic totaled 130.1 million people (up 4.7 percent).

To note, in 2023, freight transportation by all types of transport in Azerbaijan amounted to 230.2 million tons, which is 5.3 percent higher than the 2022 figure.

The country's passenger transportation during the reporting period exceeded 1.9 billion people, which is 18.7 percent more than the previous year's figure.
