BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 11. Astrakhan railway junction “Kutum” may be involved in the implementation of a possible project to launch a container train on the route “Astara-Baku-Astrakhan” of the international transport corridor (ITC) “North-South,” the statement of the Astrakhan region's Ministry of Foreign Relations said, Trend reports.

Trend expects a response to the inquiry on this issue from Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.

The Ministry of External Relations of the Astrakhan region announced that relevant negotiations have been held in Astrakhan regarding the possibility of launching a container train on the Astara-Baku-Astrakhan route.

“Astrakhan region plans to put into full operation the capacities of the Caspian cluster, which will allow developing the trans-Caspian section of the ITC ‘North-South’ and cargo sea communication with Azerbaijan," the ministry's information noted.

The possibilities of implementation of the project of container trains on the route “Astara-Baku-Astrakhan” with Iran are to be detailed.

To note, the "North-South" ITC has been developing since 2000 along several branches, including the "Russia-Azerbaijan-Iran" direction.
