Kazakhstan will develop railway corridors towards China in line with the growth of transit, Trend reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan.
According to the information, the project for the construction of second tracks and electrification of the Dostyk-Moiynty railway section along the key transit route China-Europe-China is included in the national project Strong Regions - Driver of the Country's Development. The construction of the second tracks of the Dostyk-Moiynty section with a length of 833 kilometers and the electrification of the existing Dostyk-Moiynty track are expected to begin in 2022. The construction completion date is 2025. The new railway line will pass through large settlements such as Aktogay, Balkhash, Moiynty, etc. The whole range of services provided on the railway will be provided here.
"This year, the construction of the second tracks on the Dostyk-Razezd section 19 (25-kilometer-section) has already begun, the completion of which is scheduled for 2022. The implementation of this project will increase the throughput of railway transit corridors five times - from 12 pairs of trains to 60 pairs of trains, reduce the time of transportation of goods by 1.5 times, increase the speed of transit container trains from the existing 1,050 kilometers per day to 1,300-1,400 kilometers per day," the message says.
At the same time, it is noted that over the past five years, the volume of traffic between Kazakhstan and China has increased 2.6 times.
In 2020 alone, the volume of traffic between Kazakhstan and China amounted to 21.6 million tons, with an increase of 23 percent by 2019, including through the Dostyk-Alashankou section - 15 million tons, with an increase of 12 percent by 2019.
"As the dynamics show, transit between the two countries will only increase, and the construction of a new railway section will ensure uninterrupted supply of goods and other types of goods," the ministry said.
The national project also includes the construction of the Darbaza-Maktaral line with further connection with the Uzbek railways. The length of the section amounts to 115 kilometers. The project will be implemented in 2023-2024.
It is noted that the implementation of the project will unload the existing Saryagash checkpoint and connect the Maktaaral region with the main railway of the country, without the need to travel through the territory of Uzbekistan. The expected effect of the project implementation is the reduction of transportation time by 1.5 times and an increase of the throughput of the site by two times.
