ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 16. Transportation of grain by rail from Kazakhstan to China through the Dostyk and Altynkol border crossings amounted to about 1.5 million tons from January through October 2023, Trend reports.
When compared to harvest transportation in 2021-2022, this amount grew fourfold, or by one million tons of grain.
According to Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ), 70 percent of all grain was delivered in containers.
Grain loading through the Dostyk station climbed nearly thrice to over one million tons, while loading through the Altynkol station increased 11 times to 396,000 tons.
From January to October, over 320 tons of grinding products were loaded, a 142,000-ton increase over the previous season. The majority of transportation is done in containers.
From January to October 2023, the volume of grain transported by rail in Kazakhstan totaled 9.4 million tons, a 24 percent increase over the same time last year.
Grain exports increased by 29 percent and amounted to 7.7 million tons. 1.7 million tons were transported within the country, which is 4 percent more than last year.
Loading of grinding products for 10 months of this year increased by 4 percent, to 2.5 million tons. At the same time, 1.8 million tons were shipped for export, an increase of 7 percent.
The main markets for Kazakh grain and grinding products remain the countries of Central Asia, Afghanistan, Iran, Russia and China.
