Kyrgyz state coal enterprise opens new deposits

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 30. Kyrgyzkomur, the Kyrgyz state coal enterprise, has opened the coal deposit Urmizan-3 in the Batken region, Trend reports.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the Urmizan-3 deposit is state-owned with an investment of $3 million. The site will employ 26 people and cover an area of 5 hectares.

Additionally, the Zagara-2 coal deposit in the Karasuu district of the Osh region has also been opened. This deposit is entirely state-owned with a project investment of $5 million. It will employ 77 people and cover 16.78 hectares.

The openings are expected to provide the population with quality and affordable coal for the fall and winter seasons and boost coal export levels.

The opening of these deposits marks the centenary of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region. Overall, Kyrgyzstan plans to commission 100 new industrial and social projects to mark the date.

According to the country's Statistical Committee, Kyrgyzstan exported over 467,160 tons of black coal from January through June 2024, a 13.5 percent decrease compared to 540,228 tons in the same period of 2023.
