DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, November 15. The total number of digital wallets of credit and financial organizations in Tajikistan reached 7.5 million as of September 30, 2023, which is an increase of 1.8 million wallets or 31.5 percent compared to the same period in 2022, Trend reports.
According to data from the National Bank of Tajikistan, 10.9 million cashless transactions were completed via electronic wallets during the first nine months of 2023, a 12 percent increase over the same period last year.
The total value of these transactions was 1.189 billion somoni ($110 million), a 6.7 percent increase over the same time last year.
At the same time, as of September 30, 2023, Tajikistan had issued a total of 6.409 million bank payment cards. By the end of September 2023, Tajikistan's trading and service firms had 4,622 POS terminals, while the country's ATMs had 2,092 by the end of September 2023.
As of September 30, 2023, there were 63 credit financial organizations, including 14 traditional banks, 1 Islamic bank, 1 non-bank credit organization, 19 microcredit deposit organizations, 3 microcredit organizations, and 25 microcredit funds in Tajikistan.
Digital wallets are online payment tools that enable users to conduct swift digital transactions worldwide. Clients can fund the wallet directly or link it to their bank accounts.
