Number of digital wallets in Tajikistan increases

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, February 16. The total number of digital wallets of credit financial organizations in Tajikistan reached 8.7 million units as of December 31, 2023, Trend reports.

According to the National Bank of Tajikistan, this figure rose by 2.4 million units (a 37.6 percent increase) compared to the same date in 2022 (6.329 million electronic wallets).

Throughout 2023, a total of 15.1 million non-cash transactions were conducted through digital wallets, a 12.6 percent increase compared to the previous year (13.4 million as of December 31, 2022).

These transactions amounted to 1.7 billion somoni ($115.7 million), marking a 6.9 percent increase compared to 2022's figures of 1.615 billion somoni (approximately $148 million).

In Tajikistan, there were 63 credit financial organizations in operation as of December 31, 2023, including 14 traditional banks, 1 Islamic bank, 1 non-bank credit organization, 19 microcredit deposit organizations, 3 microcredit organizations, and 25 microcredit funds.
