Tehran, Iran, June 24
Iranian Energy Minister has expressed concerns over high water consumption while there should be more efforts to adapt to current climate change.
"Iranians are consuming the precious water with this delusion that it is cheap, whereas during past decades, the government invested heavily in water infrastructures and provided subsides that offered the cheapest water price to consumers," said Reza Ardakanian, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.
"A national task force has been established to balance the water resources and consumption and adapt to the country's climate change and implement all the solutions," he added.
"Inappropriate use of lands, high water consumption, insufficient investment in water infrastructures and excess use of water resources are based on the illusion that the water is abundant," he noted. "In the current situation, we speaking about new approach to adapt to water scarcity, which requires allocation of resources and a dialogue in the society."
"As the country is in serious need of increasing employment, developing production and improving environment, the businesses that aim at low water consumption have good opportunities to grow," he indicated.
