Iran is ready to export gas turbines to Brazil, Iranian Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian said in a meeting with his Brazilian counterpart in Tehran.
He said the two countries could exchange full lists of mutually available cooperation opportunities and also agree to explore venues of cooperation, IRNA news agency reported Oct. 28.
Iran is one of the six countries able to produce large gas turbines, he said.
Chitchian pointed out that Iran is producing 74,000 megawatts of electricity, adding that 12,000 megawatts of that comes from hydroelectric power plants, 61,000 from thermal power plants, and 1,000 megawatts from nuclear energy.
It is expected that Iran can boost its power output by about 50,000 megawatts in 10 years. Iran is also looking forward to using combines cycle power plants as well as new energy such as wind and solar energy.
Chitchian further stated that Brazilian companies are welcome to finance Iranian hydroelectric power plants or high-duty 765 and 800 kilovolt grids in the BOT format.
The Brazilian official in return said that renewable energy comprises 85 percent of his country's electricity output.
Right now Brazil produces 140,000 megawatts of electricity, which according to a plan is to be doubled in 15 years, he said.
Iran currently uses wind farms with a total output of 14,000 megawatts, adding the number is needed to increase by 40,000 megawatts.
There are 15 geothermally reliable zones in Iran and these areas can produce up to 800 MW of electricity for urban areas with over 250 thousand people population.
Iran's peak power consumption hit 50,000 megawatts per hour in the current Iranian-calendar year (which started March 21).
