Qazvin-Rasht railway in northern Iran is expected to be inaugurated in summer, an Iranian transportation official said.
Kheirollah Khademi, an Iranian deputy transportation minister, has said that constructors are now laying down 63 kilometers of rails along the route, IRNA news agency reported.
On average the contractors lay down one kilometer of rail per day along the Qazvin-Rasht railway, he added. According to the official, the ministry has constructed 50 large bridges and 25 kilometers of tunnels to complete the 164 kilometer long Qazvin-Rasht railway.
Iran and Azerbaijan, as part of the International North-South Transportation Corridor, are making efforts to connect the two countries’ railways through Qazvin-Rasht-Astara route.
The sides have already held several rounds of talks on financing the Rasht-Astara segment of the railway.
Iranian Transportation Minister Abbas Akhouhni said on May 3 that financiers from Azerbaijan and Italy have expressed interest in investing in Rasht-Astara segment.
