Iran's power plants generated over 236.893 TWh (terawatt-hours) of electricity since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21) till Dec. 8, according to the latest weekly statistics, published by Iran's Energy Ministry.
The figure indicates a rise by 7 percent compared to the same period of the preceding year.
Iran’s electricity export increased by 13 percent up to 6.046 TWh from the beginning of the current fiscal year to Dec. 8, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Iran imported 2.902 TWh of electricity during the period, registering a 10-percent fall compared to the same period of the preceding year.
Iran’s thermal power plants and Bushehr nuclear power plant produced 223.84 terawatt hours of electricity in total during the reporting period, while 13.052 TWh of the country's total electricity production accounted for hydroelectric power plants.
Households consumed 34.3 percent of Iran’s generated power, during the first half of the current fiscal year, meanwhile the industry sector and agriculture sectors’ consumption from the country’s electricity generation stood at 30.5 and 16.1 percent respectively.
The country increased gas and gas oil delivery to its power plants by 8 percent and 9.8 percent to 52.781 billion cubic meters and 2.045 billion liters, while fuel oil supply to this sector increased by 6.3 percent to 2.099 billion liters in the mentioned period.
The nominal electric generation capacity has increased by 1,559 megawatts (MW) to 77,987 MW in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year, according to the report.
Gas power plants (27,208 MW) share 34.89 percent of the generation capacity, meanwhile the share of combined cycle (20,270 MW) and steam power plants (15,829 MW) accounts for 25.99 and 20.3 percent, respectively.
Hydroelectric (11,811 MW) and Bushehr nuclear power plant’s (1020 MW) nominal electric generation capacity is equal to 15.14 and 1.31 percent of country’s electric generation capacity, meanwhile the share of renewables stands at only 0.41 percent or 322 MW.
Iran plans to increase its nominal electric generation capacity to 80,000 MW by summer 2018, and 100,000 by 2025, 1,000 of which should be produced from solar energy.
