Iran's power plants generated over 251.95 TWh (terawatt-hours) of electricity since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21) till Dec. 29, according to the latest weekly statistics, published by Iran's Energy Ministry.
The output was almost 7 percent more compared to the same period of the preceding year.
Iran’s electricity export increased by 10 percent up to 6.55 TWh from the beginning of the current fiscal year to Dec. 29, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Iran imported 3.16 TWh of electricity during the period, registering a 9-percent fall compared to the same period of the preceding year.
Iran’s thermal power plants and Bushehr nuclear power plant produced 238.39 terawatt hours of electricity in total during the reporting period, while 13.56 TWh of the country's total electricity production accounted for hydroelectric power plants.
Households consumed 34.9 percent of Iran’s generated power, during the first eight month of the current fiscal year (March 20, Nov. 21, 2017), meanwhile the industry sector and agriculture sectors’ consumption from the country’s electricity generation stood at 30.4 and 16.1 percent respectively.
The country increased gas delivery to its power plants by 9.7 percent to 55.35 billion cubic meters, meanwhile gas oil supply to this sector decreased by 13.6 percent to 2.627 billion liters in the mentioned period.
The Iranian power plants also consumed 2.48 billion liters of fuel oil in the period till Dec. 29, 0.2 percent more year-on-year.
The nominal electric generation capacity has increased by 1,904 megawatts (MW) to 78,332 MW in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year, according to the report.
Gas power plants (27,532 MW) share 35.15 percent of the generation capacity, meanwhile the share of combined cycle (20,270 MW) and steam power plants (15,829 MW) accounts for 25.88 and 20.2 percent, respectively.
Hydroelectric (11,811 MW) and Bushehr nuclear power plant’s (1020 MW) nominal electric generation capacity is equal to 15.1 and 1.3 percent of country’s electric generation capacity, meanwhile the share of renewables stands at only 0.41 percent or 322 MW.
The country is expected to add 1,260 MW to its electric generation capacity by March 2018, according to the report.
Iran plans to increase its nominal electric generation capacity to 80,000 MW by summer 2018, and 100,000 by 2025, 1,000 of which should be produced from solar energy.
