Iran boosts transit transportation by railroad

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 20. Iran's product transit by rail increased by 10 percent in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), the data of Iran's Ministry of Roads and Urban Development said, Trend reports.

A total of 1.57 million tons of products were transported by rail in Iran last year.

Iran's railways transported 1.270 million tons of non-oil and 295,000 tons of oil products last year.

Meanwhile, a total of 43 million tons of goods were transported by Iranian railroads last year. This signifies a decrease of 2 percent compared to the previous year. Thus, 44 million tons of cargo were transported by railroads the previous year.

The length of railway lines in Iran currently stands at 14,984 kilometers. There are 993 locomotives, 29,950 freight cars, and 2,178 passenger cars operating on Iran's railroad lines.

To note, a total of 17.8 million tons of products were transported through Iran last year. Transit increased by 36.5 percent compared to the previous year.
