BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 3. The Astara cargo terminal in Iran's Gilan Province will be commissioned within the next year, the country's Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Head of the Road and Transport Organization Rza Akbari told reporters during his visit to the new cargo terminal today, Trend reports.

According to him, preparations are underway for the construction of the terminal on a six-hectare area.

Currently, the terminal's map is being reviewed by the official land border crossing regulation council, and the construction will begin in the near future, the official explained.

Akbari also reminded that in 2023, a new bridge was inaugurated with the participation of Iranian and Azerbaijani officials.

He pointed out that work is underway to relocate the old terminal towards the new bridge and to ensure that cargo transportation is fully conducted via the new bridge.

This issue was specifically highlighted during the Tehran meeting of the Joint Economic Commission between Iran and Azerbaijan, added the official.

To note, the 16th meeting of the Joint Economic Commission of Iran and Azerbaijan was held in Tehran on January 21-22. At the conclusion of the meeting, a cooperation agreement was signed between the two countries.
