Iran sees decrease in red meat production countrywide

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 20. The volume of red meat produced in Iran decreased by one percent in the 11th month of the current Iranian year (from January 20 through February 18, 2025) compared to the same month of the previous year (from January 21 through February 19, 2024).

Data obtained by Trend from the Iranian Statistics Center shows that 33,230 tons of red meat were produced in Iran in the 11th month of the current year, while in the same month last year, this figure was 33,510 tons.

The production of beef and veal in the 11th month amounted to 18,226 tons, down 18 percent compared to the same month last year (18,598 tons).

Besides, the production of mutton and lamb in the mentioned month amounted to 11,587 tons, decreasing by two percent compared to the same month last year (11,881 tons).

Goat meat production amounted to 2,266 tons, increasing by two percent compared to the same month last year (2,315 tons).

Other red meat (buffalo, camel) production in the 11th month amounted to 730 tons, decreasing by 35.8 percent compared to the same month last year (1,137 tons).

Statistics from Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture show that the country produces 1.2 million tons of red meat annually.

Additionally, currently in Iran, one kg of mutton costs between 4.2-12.2 million rials (circa $7.3-21.2), and one kg of beef and veal costs between 3.7-5.9 million rials (about $6.43-10.2).
