Türkiye estimates cargo volume handled by its Iskenderun port

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 17. Türkiye's Iskenderun port handled 28.8 million tons of cargo from January through May 2024, the statement of Türkiye's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure said, Trend reports.

According to the ministry, about 1.3 million tons of cargo were transported from the port of Iskenderun by vessels under the flag of Türkiye, while 27.6 million tons of cargo were transported under the flags of other countries.

Furthermore, a total of 2.6 million tons of transit cargo were transported from the port of Iskenderun from January through May 2024.

Meanwhile, in June 2024, Türkiye's ports received 32.1 million tons of cargo. During this period, cargo traffic to domestic ports by Turkish-flagged vessels amounted to 2.5 million tons.

“Cargo traffic of vessels under the flags of other countries to the ports of Türkiye amounted to 29.6 million tons,” the statement of the ministry reads.

Moreover, in June 2024, 5.9 million tons of transit cargo were transported from the ports of Türkiye.

The ministry noted that Türkiye's ports received 204 million tons of cargo from January through June 2024.

“The cargo handling by Turkish-flagged vessels amounted to 14.8 million tons, while by vessels under the flags of other countries, cargo transportation to the ports of Türkiye amounted to 189.2 million tons,” the statement noted.

The statement adds that about 34.3 million tons of transit cargo were transported from the ports of Türkiye from January through June 2024.

However, in June of this year, the ports of Türkiye received 5,543 vessels.

During the mentioned period, the number of vessels accepted in the ports of Türkiye under the flags of other countries amounted to 3,517, while the number of vessels accepted under the flag of Türkiye was 2,026.

The ports of Türkiye received 29,315 vessels from January through June 2024.

During this period, vessels under the flags of other countries accepted by Turkish ports amounted to 19,790, and under the Turkish flag, 5,525.
