ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 26. The ceremony of shipment of the first two LRT trains for Kazakhstan's Astana city took place in Tangshan (PRC), Trend reports via the Chinese City Transportation Systems company.
According to the information, from the Kazakh side, the ceremony was attended by Asylbek Duisebaev, Chairman of the Board of LLP "City Transportation Systems."
The Chinese side was represented by Zhou Junnian, Chairman of the Board of the rolling stock manufacturer "CRRC Tangshan Co., Ltd," and Zhou Haiwei, General Director of the general contractor company CRAEC.
“At the plant in Tangshan, a total of 19 units of rolling stock will be produced as part of the project. The modern four-section driverless trains with level 4 automation can each accommodate up to 650 passengers. Production is carried out at the facilities of CRRC Tangshan — one of the largest and oldest enterprises in the railway industry of China, founded in 1881,” the company’s press service noted.
The delivery of the first two train sets to Astana is scheduled for June 2025. The remaining 17 units will be delivered by the end of the current year. The start of the test operation of the line is planned for September.
Currently, most of the construction work on the LRT project in Astana is completed. Track laying, station facade installation, painting of supports and beams of the overpass, connection of external engineering networks, landscaping of the area under the overpass, and depot construction are ongoing.
