BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17. The Azerbaijani railway system transported around 3.9 million people and 7.1 million tons of freight between January and May of 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistics Committee indicates
that rail freight logistics within the national network experienced
a contraction of 7.7 percent, whereas passenger throughput surged
by 18.8 percent, relative to the corresponding timeframe in
2024.
It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan's logistics metrics for cargo and
passenger transit experienced an uptick of 3 percent and 5.9
percent, respectively, during the January to May 2025 timeframe, in
comparison to the analogous period of the preceding year.
Logistics sector participants orchestrated the seamless transit of
an aggregate 96.8 million tons of cargo. Within this composite,
maritime logistics constituted 3.9 percent, rail freight operations
encompassed 7.3 percent, air cargo accounted for a scant 0.2
percent, ground transportation prevailed at 59.9 percent, and
pipeline logistics represented 28.7 percent.
