Uzbekistanhas has increased the excise duty on alcoholic beverages, alcohol, beer and tobacco products as from Jan.1, 2014.
The new taxes were approved by the Uzbek president's decree 'On the forecast of key macroeconomic indicators and parameters of Uzbekistan's state budget for 2014'.
Excise on ethyl alcohol will increase by 20 percent to 3,637 soums per dal, cognac and vodka and other alcoholic beverages by 25 percent to 32,700 soums per dal of the finished product.
The excise on natural wines will increase by five percent to 5492 soums, fortified wines by 15 percent to 6587 soums and beer by 20 percent to 3570 soums per dal of the finished product.
Excise duty on domestically made filtered cigarettes is set at 17,451 soums per 1000 units which is an increase of 30 percent compared to the current excise duty in 2013 whilst non-filter cigarettes and cigars stand at 6479 soums, an increase of 30 percent .
It was earlier reported that Uzbekistan increased the minimum wholesale selling and retail prices of alcoholic beverages, except beer from Jan.1, 2014. The minimum wholesale price for cognac products for manufacturers has increased by 50 percent and amounted to 9400 soums per litre, while the retail price increased to 11,400 soums.
The minimum wholesale and retail price for vodka and other alcoholic products increased by 25 percent to 7800 soums, while the retail price went up to 9500 soums per litre.
Wholesale prices for wine increased 20 percent to 3300 soums and retail prices to 4000 soums.
The minimum wholesale prices for vodka and other alcoholic beverages amounted to 6250 soums a 25 percent increase and retail prices were 7600 soums per litre, an increase of 24.6 percent since early 2014.
According to official statistics, production of vodka and liquors in Uzbekistan in January- September 2013 increased by six percent to 9.585 million dal, cognac - 8.7 percent, to 81,100 dal, champagne 0.4 percent to 57,800 dal and beer three percent to 17.101 million dal.
Wine production in Uzbekistan has decreased by two percent to 1,652 dal in January-September.
The official exchange rate on Jan.3 is 2202.20 soums/$1.
