The volume of cargo turnover in Kazakhstan amounted to 232 billion ton-kilometers in January-May 2018, which is 9.7 percent more than in the same period of the previous year, the Committee for Statistics of the Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan said in a message.
In January-May 2018, the volume of cargo transportation amounted to 1.47 billion tons (an increase of 5.5 percent compared to January-May last year). Passenger transportation reached 110 billion passenger-kilometers, as 9.1 billion passengers were transported.
Previously, Kanat Alpysbaev, the head of Kazakhstan Railways, said that in 2018 the railway cargo turnover in Kazakhstan is expected to increase to 214 billion ton-kilometers.
The freight fleet of Kazakhstan, in turn, is expected to increase the volume of transported cargo to 100,000 tons per year.
