Starting Aug. 1, 2018, Uzbekistan will ban the sale of some local and imported goods without labeling using a protected label and nano-molecular technology, Uzbek media reported referring to a presidential decree.
The list of 54 categories of goods subject to mandatory labeling includes non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, medicines, vitamins and food additives, cosmetics and hygiene products, household chemicals, fertilizers, automotive fuel, and others.
“There is a tendency to increase the volume of illegal, poor-quality, counterfeit and falsified products, which is detrimental to the life and health of citizens, leads to unhealthy competition and losses of the state budget of Uzbekistan, and also creates conditions for the manifestation of corruption and other offenses,” the document read.
The list will be supplemented by new product groups in the future. After inclusion of goods in the list, their sale without labeling is allowed within 180 days.
Labeling services will be provided by a single supplier, which should be selected by the National Project Management Agency under the president before Feb. 1. The cost of the supplier’s services will be fixed for the entire term of the agreement, which will last from 5 to 10 years.
It is also planned to adopt amendments to legislation that establish responsibility for the sale of goods without labeling.
