South Korean President Moon Jae-in believes that it is important to expand Korea’s economic cooperation with Uzbekistan to high-tech areas: information technology, 5G mobile communications, space technology, medicine and the bio-industry, Trend reports via Uzbek media which cited the South Korean president.
Moon Jae-in noted that the volume of bilateral trade last year reached $2.1 billion which is the maximum level in the entire history of relations between the countries.
South Korea and Uzbekistan support cooperation in the areas of energy, automotive, textile, logistics, information technology and finance.
“For future-oriented economic cooperation, first of all, it is necessary to strengthen the institutional framework,” the South Korean president said.
During the state visit, Moon Jae-in intends to discuss projects and ways to improve investment conditions.
Moreover, Moon Jae-in stressed the role of Uzbekistan in the “New Northern Politics” in denuclearizing and resolving the situation on the Korean Peninsula through political and diplomatic means.
“The new northern policy is aimed at establishing a stable peace on the Korean Peninsula and achieving joint peace and prosperity throughout the continent of Eurasia. Going beyond the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, this policy will lead to the common prosperity of Central Asia and the Eurasian continent. We hope to strengthen the ties of Eurasia with Uzbekistan, which is a key partner in the implementation of the New Northern Policy, and open the era of the new Silk Road,” the politician said.
Moon Jae-in announced the holding of the XII forum on cooperation between Korea and the countries of Central Asia at the ministerial level in the second half of the year, which will become a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience between the countries of Central Asia.
Earlier Trend reported that South Korean president will visit Uzbekistan from 18 to 21 April.
