The US Agency for International Development (USAID) plans to expand cooperation with Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to Uzbek Foreign Ministry.
Uzbekistan's First Deputy Foreign Minister Farhod Arziev and USAID Assistant Administrator for Asia Gloria Steele discussed bilateral cooperation in economy, agriculture, health and education on May 28, the report said.
Gloria Steele noted that projects worth over $120 million have been implemented through USAID in Uzbekistan's health care system alone. In 2020, as part of the fight against the spread of COVID-19, USAID has allocated $3.8 million to Uzbekistan, said the ministry.
In turn, Arziev noted that USAID's Development of the Value Chain in Agriculture project implemented in Uzbekistan helped the country's farmers to learn modern methods of cultivation, processing, storage and export of horticultural products.
As part of successful cooperation in this direction, USAID plans to design the Development of Agribusiness in Uzbekistan program, said the report.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed prospects for deepening cooperation in such areas as trade development, modernization of the energy sector, strengthening secondary and higher education, support for health care, and introduction of water-saving technologies.
