ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 17. Carlsberg Kazakhstan has begun construction of a new soft drink production plant in the Almaty region, which was marked by a ceremony of signing an investment agreement and laying the first stone, Trend reports via Kazakh Invest.
The new plant will be built on a 17-hectare site in the Ili district of the Almaty region. The production capacity will be about 1 billion liters of beverages per year. The investment volume in the project is estimated at $344 million.
Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Gabidulla Ospankulov noted
that the project implementation confirms Kazakhstan’s favorable
investment climate and the strategic importance of partnerships
with global companies. According to him, laying the foundation of
the plant demonstrates investors' trust in the country’s policy to
improve business conditions.
“Over the years of Carlsberg Group’s presence in Kazakhstan,
approximately $640 million has been invested. The new project with
an investment volume of $344 million confirms the company’s
long-term intentions and will become a driver of development in the
region’s food industry. The launch of the plant will create
hundreds of jobs, expand the use of local raw materials, and
contribute to the growth of the country’s export potential,” he
emphasized.
In his speech, the Chief of the Investment Committee also noted
that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and JSC “NC Kazakh Invest” are
ready to provide full support to the project, including measures to
develop related industries and expand localization.
Significant attention is being paid to the development of locally
related industries. The share of local content in the Group’s
procurement structure is 80 percent and includes such items as
barley, wheat, aluminum cans, glass bottles, and cardboard, which
are almost entirely purchased from Kazakh producers.
“The new plant is not just a production facility. It is a symbol of our long-term commitment in Kazakhstan. It is an investment that will bring new jobs, modern technologies, and a significant contribution to the development of the local economy. After completion, it will become one of the most modern and sustainable plants in the region, fully compliant with international standards,” emphasized Jakob Aarup-Andersen, CEO of Carlsberg Group.
The plant will be built based on international standards of quality, environmental friendliness, and energy efficiency, which will strengthen Kazakhstan’s position in the beverage market and promote the development of new technologies and brands.
Once the plant is operational, it is planned to create more than 230 new jobs. Products will be manufactured under license from PepsiCo and supplied to the markets of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The plant is scheduled to begin operations in 2026.
