The Turkish firm Calik Holding has prepared a project to provide the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat with stable and reliable electric power and to modernise the country's energy system, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported today.
Implementation of this ambitious project which for decades will guarantee a reliable and uninterrupted supply of electricity to the rapidly developing capital is to take five years and will be implemented in three phases.
All 60 sub-stations planned for construction will be connected to a common system of supply during commissioning.
Ashgabat will construct a new dispatch centre which commence work on the first stage of the project and will manage the power system of the capital in full at the second phase.
In particular, the project stipulates that during the renovation of existing and construction of new power plants, they will be equipped with advanced equipment and technology from such vendors as company Schneider Electric, Siemens, General Electric and ABB which will supply the equipment and carry out commissioning as well as train appropriate staff.
The Turkmenenergo State Electric Energy Corporation system comprises 10 electric power stations and six production units of electricity networks. Power transmission lines connect all electric power stations of the country into a single grid.
At present, the installed capacity of all power stations of the Turkmen energy system is 4,104 MW. The modern gas turbine generators generate 1,643 MW or 40 per cent.
