The volume of cargo shipment via Georgia’s Supsa and Kulevi terminals, through which only oil and oil products are transported, stood at 5.7 million tons in the first quarter of 2018, SeaRates, the international digital freight broker with the most powerful network of independent freight agents all over the world, told Trend.
“As much as 2.8 million tons of oil has been transported through Supsa, which receives crude via a pipeline from Baku,” said SeaRates.
Supsa oil terminal receives oil from Azerbaijan via the Baku-Supsa pipeline operated by Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC).
Azerbaijan exports products of chemical and fuel industry, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, machine building and metalworking (mobile drilling rigs, lifting units, deep pumps, electric motors, geophysical devices), light industry products and others. The country primarily mainly finished products, machines, cars, clothes, food products.
Located on the Black Sea Coast of Georgia, in Lanchkhuti district Supsa terminal provides storage capacity for crude oil transported via the Western Route Export Pipeline (WREP) before loading to oil tankers via offshore loading facilities. The crude is further shipped via tankers through the Bosphorus Straits to global markets. The terminal is a vital link in Georgia economy.
