Kazakh MP Murat Bakhtiyaruly proposed to solve the problem of water shortage in the Kyzylorda region during the growing season in his address to the country’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin, Trend reports via Kazinform.
According to the MP, the socio-economic state of the region directly depends on the water supply of the Syrdarya river basin and the reclamation state of the irrigated lands. The region is located in the lower reaches of a transboundary river and therefore depends on the volume of water coming from its upstreams.
In this regard, the reduction of water dependence on the states located in the upper reaches of the Syrdarya River is of fundamental importance for the region. According to the deputy, the construction of the Karaozek and Kumisketken reservoirs will help solve this problem. Their creation is needed for a stable water supply.
“I ask you to provide assistance and envisage 500 million tenge ($1.17 million) in the state budget for 2022 to start the construction of the Kumisketken and Karaozek reservoirs, as well as the reconstruction of the water intake in the Zhanakorgan district of the Kyzylorda region through the water supply service of the Kazvodkhoz RSE of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources. It’s important to provide water for 30,000 hectares of irrigated land,” said Bakhtiyaruly at the plenary session of the Senate.
