Experts of the UK consulting company ARUP have developed an electronic map of Uzbekistan’s Tashkent with areas of possible flooding, both from heavy rains and from the breakthrough of dams and dams of city canals, Trend reports citing city’s administration.
In addition, UK experts have developed a scheme for the destruction of infrastructure in the event of various shocks.
According to the information, the capital of Uzbekistan has been unprepared for spring floods for the past six years.
Such a major water accident occurred in May 2014. Intense rain, which poured in Tashkent for about 16 hours in a row, turned many streets into real lakes and rivers. As forecasters later admitted, showers of such high intensity are repeated once every 5-7 years.
Later, the Concept for ensuring the sustainable functioning of underground and surface watercourses in case of emergencies in the city of Tashkent was developed. However, the problems remain until now, and various areas of the capital are constantly heated during heavy rains.
It was noted that the main reason for this is the fact that many modern buildings, roads, and bridges were built without taking into account such phenomena. “So, the correct flow of water has not been calculated, and ditches, sometimes, do not lead anywhere, simply being located on the sides of the road,” was noted in the message.
Also, clogged drain pipes and wells become one of the serious factors that aggravate the problem
