BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 11. Iran's sponge iron exports increased by 48.7 percent in value and 58 percent in weight in the first month of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through April 19, 2024) compared to the same month of the previous year (from March 21 through April 20, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Steel Producers Association said, Trend reports.
According to the statistics, Iran exported 79,000 tons of sponge iron worth $20 million in the first month.
However, in the same month last year, Iran's sponge iron exports amounted to 50,000 tons worth $14 million.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that Iran's annual production of sponge iron exceeds 33 million tons.
Furthermore, during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), Iran's sponge iron exports amounted to approximately 1.48 million tons worth $361 million. Iran's sponge iron exports increased by 73.9 percent in value and 70.8 percent in weight compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).
To note, Iran exported 9.7 million tons of non-oil products worth $3.17 billion in the first month of the current Iranian year. Iran's exports of non-oil products decreased by 16.9 percent in value terms and 9.66 percent in weight terms compared to the same month last year.
