BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 29. The export of sponge iron from Iran increased by 26.6 percent in value and 31.4 percent in weight terms during two months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through May 20, 2024) compared to the same month of the previous year (from March 21 through May 21, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Steel Producers' Association said, Trend reports.
According to the statistics, Iran exported 269,000 tons of sponge iron worth $69 million in two months.
However, during the same period last year, Iran's sponge iron exports amounted to 205,000 tons worth $55 million.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that Iran's annual production of sponge iron exceeds 33 million tons.
Moreover, Iran's sponge iron exports amounted to approximately 1.48 million tons worth $361 million during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024). Iran's sponge iron exports increased 73.9 percent in value and 70.8 percent in weight compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).
To note, Iran's non-oil exports for two months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through May 20, 2024) amounted to 23.5 million tons valued at $8 billion. Iran's non-oil exports increased by 3.8 percent in value and 8.5 percent in weight during two months compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through May 21, 2023).
