BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 15. The export of sponge iron from Iran decreased by 15.6 percent in value and 15 percent in weight during the 3 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through June 20, 2024) compared to the same period of last year (from March 21 through June 21, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Steel Producers Association said, Trend reports.
According to the statistics, Iran exported 341,000 tons of sponge iron worth $88 million in 3 months.
However, during the same period last year, Iran's sponge iron exports amounted to 402,000 tons worth $104 million.
Meanwhile, Iran's annual production of sponge iron exceeds 33 million tons.
Furthermore, during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), Iran's sponge iron exports were approximately 1.48 million tons worth $361 million. Iran's sponge iron exports increased by 73.9 percent in value and 70.8 percent in weight compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).
To note, according to the statistics of Iran's Customs Administration, Iran exported 38 million tons of non-oil products worth $13.5 billion during the first three months of the current Iranian year. Iran's exports of non-oil products decreased by 7.6 percent in value and 5.6 percent in weight compared to the same month last year.
